If you’ve ever found yourself on the PAPER & LACE blog, you probably know that I absolutely adore featuring my clients’ wedding and love stories! As a professional in the custom wedding stationery field, my job wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for all of the unique and beautiful love stories in the world – your stories!
Today’s no different. I’d like to introduce you to my lovely clients Kaitlyn and Philip. I had the pleasure of working with Kaitlyn on her custom wedding invitations and I’d love to share this couple’s very own love story with you!
How They Met
Phil and Kaitlyn were first introduced in 2012 by a pair of mutual friends – mutual friends who, in fact, are married with a baby now! The two hung out and first got to know each other in a group setting before taking the plunge and heading out on their first date.
“We dated for a couple of months and then we sort of lost touch,” Kaitlyn told us. “We reconnected on the Metro North Railroad (commuter rail road) of all places!”
Phil was taking an early morning train into New York City and Kaitlyn was taking an early morning train into Greenwich, Connecticut. **Cue the ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ –Journey track now!**
“We would see each other almost daily and from there, we started to hang out again,” Kaitlyn said. This time around, things got more serious and the two decided to make their relationship official.
How He Asked
Kaitlyn and Phil dated for five years before he popped the most important question on October 28, 2017.
“It was a beautiful autumn day here in New England, and Phil and I went hiking at Kent Falls State Park,” Kaitlyn gushed.
“We had a picnic lunch off of a trail. For dessert, Phil pulled out a cupcake box from Sprinkles Cupcakes (my favorite bakery), and when I opened it up there wasn’t a cupcake inside, but a ring box, instead! He got down on one knee in the woods and proposed! It was such an amazing moment!”
Before you know it, wedding planning started. A guest list was created, a wedding venue was chosen, and custom, lace and satin ribbon belly band wedding invitations were sent out to Kaitlyn & Phil’s attendees.
Kaitlyn & Phil’s Wedding Day
Kaitlyn and Phil were married on August 25, 2018, at the New Haven Lawn Club in New Haven, Connecticut.
The New Haven Lawn Club is an old, Georgian-style mansion with so much character and elegance. Their wedding ceremony was held in the ballroom, which is a stunning room with Art Deco chandeliers, dark wood floors, and a beautiful white fireplace – the perfect backdrop for a fairytale wedding!
“Our mantle was decorated with pops of flowers and chunky white candles. The inside of the fireplace had tons of chunky white candles that were lit. We had ivory colored rose petals down the aisles. Our ceremony music was played on a harp, by the harpist Rebecca Swett. It was all so magical.”
After the ceremony, guests were taken to another area of the Lawn Club for cocktail hour.
This room has tables and high tops decorated with candles and a lovely outdoor terrace. Kaitlyn and Phil had a piano player on a baby grand performing during cocktail hour for their guests to enjoy.
Their reception was held back in the ballroom where their ceremony took place – only now it had been transformed into a stunning venue!
“Our color scheme was neutrals, so our centerpieces were white florals with pops of green, and several votives [created by Michelle Gibbs at Flowers From the Farm],” Kaitlyn told us.
“The room looked so classy, elegant and romantic, which was the vibe we were going for.”
During the reception, Kaitlyn and Phil’s guests dined on salads, ravioli, and entrees before having wedding cake.
As a late night snack, the pair brought in pizzas from the world famous Frank Pepe Pizza, which is located in New Haven (YUM!). “We wanted our out of town guests to experience world famous New Haven pizza!”
“It was such an amazing day and we were so pleased with all of our wonderful vendors!”
